De-risking Innovation in the AI-era

The Net Zero RFI process

The AI-era requires a new approach to enabling innovation at scale.

The Net Zero Innovation Hub de-risks innovation by removing risks related to technology, off-take, business models, regulation, and funding.

The Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers (NZIH) was founded to accelerate the deployment at scale of innovative Net Zero solutions in the AI-era.

The Net Zero Innovation Hub approach sets itself apart developing and executing collaborative projects which remove technology, commercial, financial, and regulative risks.

Advanced clean technologies face challenges, in part because of the novelty and risk of early projects.

The NZIH Process aggregates and standardizes requirements of the data center industry leaders, identifies innovative solutions and executes validation pilot projects at scale, leveraging public and private investments.

This approach aims to reduce the risks for innovators, developers, and investors, thus resolving the catch-22 situation between commercial projects and investments, ensuring the investments necessary to elevate the innovation speed and scale required in the AI-era.

The NZIH process is applied across the activity areas: Heat Reuse, Clean Power, and Scope 3 Materials.

As part of the NZIH innovation process, Request for Information (RFI) are issued based on the requirements of the industry leaders.

FAQ regarding RFI

  • What are the confidentiality terms for information submitted in response to RFI?

The information submitted by innovators as part of this RFI will not be released publicly as received.

The information submitted will be shared among the Executive NZIH partners, the supporting analysts and contractors for project evaluation purposes only, which are bound by confidentiality.

Summary reports and trends with reference to the RFI can be published by the NZIH.

The goal of the RFI is to collect information about innovative solutions to verify if an innovative solution is sufficiently mature, scalable and competitive to be widely deployed in data centers.

The RFI is not a supplier selection. Its goal is not to compare individual suppliers’ performance or pricing.

The information provided is expected to be for information purposes, of budgetary nature, target character, and non-binding.

The solutions which are deemed eligible for NZIH projects will be shared with the NZIH members when suitable  projects are started. NZIH projects are covered by specific NDAs between the project members as appropriate.

Should a solution be selected for additional evaluation past the RFI stage with individual NZIH members, the company can enter into additional non-disclosure agreement between the parties as appropriate.

  • What is the difference between an RFI and RFQ?

The RFI is not an RFQ

The goal of the RFI is NOT to compare different quotations and select suppliers. It is an evaluation of solutions, NOT a supplier selection

The RFI aims to answer the questions:

Is there an innovative solution with the potential to be deployed at GW scale

Does the solution fulfil the technical, economical, supply chain,, and other requirements to become a standard solution  for data centers?

How can the NZIH support the scale-up ( typical example: a pilot project)

The summary reports will focus on the “state of the art “ of technologies and will mention the innovators.

If the solution passes the NZIH RFI Phase and goes to the Pilot phase, then the HUB companies will issue individual, independent RFQ for their needs.

  • Are estimated figures preferred over leaving questions blank in the RFI written response?

Estimated figures are preferred over blank answers.

It is ok to share a range and indicate where there is still uncertainty.

  • Can I submit multiple responses?

Yes, if you have multiple solutions.

  • What support will NZIH provide to projects?

Our commitment is to proving the demand model for first-of-a-kind project on innovative alternative solutions to diesel generators back-up.

Our aim is to validate innovative solutions through real-world projects, secure offtake agreements, and implement the necessary support mechanisms to accelerate project deployment.

As projects progress through the diligence phase, we will engage in discussions to identify any additional measures needed beyond offtake. If your project requires specific areas of support, we encourage you to highlight them in your RFI submission.

  • Will there be future rounds of RFI?

Yes, we anticipate future rounds, depending on the success of the first round. The evaluation of proposed solutions and the project initiation will be done in batches.

  • What offtake structures will be considered?

The companies are open to discussing bilaterally any terms and offtake structures which would make a project successful.

The Net Zero Hub provides visibility on the total potential market for solution matching the market requirements.

Commercial terms are discussed directly between the companies.

After the validation phase, projects selected for procurement will discuss separate offtake agreements with the companies involved.

  • What if my innovation is relevant for data centers, but there is no open RFI for my innovation?

NZIH plans to issue additional RFI related to related to Energy, Scope 3, Materials, and Heat Reuse.

If there is no open RFI for your innovation, you can still upload information regarding your project.

We will contact you when an RFI related to your topic is upcoming.
